I live in Charleston SC and have several friends that own restaurants/bars. Some are seeing a decline as high as 20% in year over year sales after seeing nothing but growth since 2021. Yes, the Charleston food scene is a saturated market with new restaurants opening seemingly every week but we are now seeing some closures in some well established restaurants. Had dinner with my friend last night that has two downtown restaurants and the more high end one is feeling the most pain. I also have a SAAS business that sells to product manufacturing and design companies, some very large, and several have put a halt to any new purchases as they are tightening their belt. I’m in the 2/3 group (or whatever the actual stat was) that thinks we already are in a recession.
